It’s time for a new chapter
Over 3 years has gone by since we first launched GadgtSpot — really. Sadly, it’s with a heavy heart I say this, but we have decided to officially close GadgtSpot. This decision did not come lightly, and I hate to even have to write this post.
Many of you might have noticed over the past several months that posting on here has gotten less and less frequent. We would do the occasional giveaway to help boost traffic, but then we would die right back down again. We would have a week or two where we were good at getting posts out, then right back into the lull we were in before. This was mainly my fault. I’ve been going through a lot in my personal life, and I let it affect GadgtSpot. I wasn’t involved much with the site, and I wasn’t posting much. I let reviews get behind, fall through the cracks, and sometimes just did not reply to emails. I left just about everything to the rest of the team; that’s not what a leader should do.
With this, I say goodbye to my baby, my pride and joy. I started GadgtSpot as a spunky 17-year-old kid with one desire, to take over the blogging realm. This task proved much harder than initially anticipated. Since I started my new job in May of this year, I have started to take a much larger role at work in the media realm. I now produce videos almost weekly for my day-job, and between that and my studies, and my involvement in church, the time I have to run a website — let alone try and turn it into a business — just doesn’t exist. After many months of considering shutting down the site, merging with another site, or just up and leaving the site entirely and leaving it in the hands of the current team, I finally came to a conclusion. I did not make this decision alone, however. Everyone on the team had a voice in the decision we made, and it was a unanimous vote.
I thank each and every one of you guys who have supported us over the past three years. We couldn’t have made it to CES two years in a row without you! I thank everyone who helped us on the backend, from hosting to graphic design to even some website work: thank you! Sadly, the option we chose was not the easy one, but it was the best. With ratings and page views constantly falling, ad revenue just not where it needed to be, and with other factors, it was time make the decision official.
Over the course of the past 3 years, we have become close friends with many other people in the blogging realm. One of the closest sites to which we became good friends with was YourTechExplained. Ben, Alex, Andrew and the entire team over at YourTechExplained have always been good to us. We have worked with them on many projects in the past, and spent most of CES 2016 with them as well. So, it is with great joy that I officially announce our merging with YourTechExplained! Our entire team has moved over there to help make their site not only larger, but give us the ability to get content out to a much larger audience. There are many logistic things going on in the background now to make the transition smoother. Our writers have been busy helping to keep YourTechExplained fresh with news, reviews, and how-tos! Our joining YourTechExplained is multi-faceted; we can now focus more on tutorials and how-tos, something I have wanted to do for a long time. It will also give us the ability to broaden our horizons with new companies to partner with, new people to collaborate with, and of course, a larger audience to interact with.
We will keep the GadgtSpot website live for the next few months as we slowly migrate everything over to YourTechExplained. Brandon will be attending CES in January with Andrew from YourTechExplained, so be sure to say hi if you can.
Again, thank you ALL for your support throughout the past 3 years, and I hope to see you over at YourTechExplained!
