Ooma brings IP calling to the Amazon Echo

For those unfamiliar, Ooma is a VoIP service that allows users to make phone calls over an internet connection. Ooma has taken integrated their service with Amazon Echo to allow users to take advantage of Ooma’s service and make free calls right from their Echo! This adds to Ooma’s vast list of integrated services including Next, Apple Watch, Android Wear, Philips Hue, WeMo LIFX, and Dropbox.

To make a call using the Echo through Ooma, you merely have to tell Alexa what you want. First, set up Ooma with the Amazon Alexa App by entering any landline or mobile phone number, then call out “Alexa, use Ooma to call Mom”. Assuming that ‘Mom’ is a contact in your online Ooma contact list, your Echo will proceed to call Mom with Ooma.

That’s not the extent of Ooma, though. You can also use voice commands to check your voicemail with ease. A simple “Alexa, use Ooma to play voicemail” will get you all caught up on those phone calls you missed.
